On-device by default

Local transcription never leaves your Mac. No audio, no text. Turn the network off and it still works. Kazhy has no account and no sign-in, so there is nothing about you for this section to carry.

Cloud transcription

Cloud transcription is opt-in, and it needs a Groq API key that you create yourself and paste into Settings or the onboarding step. Once a key is in, audio goes straight from your Mac to Groq's servers over an encrypted connection, on your own Groq account. Skip that step, now or ever, and nothing changes: Kazhy keeps transcribing on your Mac.

Kazhy has no server of its own in this path. We do not see, receive, or store your audio, your transcripts, or your Groq key. There is nobody standing between your Mac and Groq for this feature to log.

What happens to that audio afterwards is governed by Groq's own privacy policy and terms, since it is sent under your account rather than one of ours. As of September 2026, Groq's data page states that it does not retain inference data by default, that temporary logs are kept only for troubleshooting and abuse monitoring, for up to 30 days, and that any account can turn on Zero Data Retention as a setting: console.groq.com/docs/your-data. Its Services Agreement separately states, in section 4.2, that Groq is not permitted to use Inputs or Outputs to train or fine-tune its models unless a customer explicitly grants permission to: console.groq.com/docs/legal/services-agreement. Neither document draws a distinction between a free key and a paid one, as far as we found reading them. We are describing Groq's own documents here, not making a promise of our own; read them yourself for the current, full account.

AI Styles

AI Styles use the same key and the same path. Your transcript and the prompt for the style you chose go to Groq, and the styled result comes back the same way. If you wrote a custom style, its prompt lives in styles.json on your Mac like every built-in style; it is sent to Groq only while that style is switched on, and nowhere else.

Your Groq key

Your key is stored in your Mac's Keychain, the same place any password would be. Kazhy shows it back to you only as a mask, like gsk_…4f2a, and never writes it into your history, a crash report, or a log file. Remove it from Settings and Kazhy switches back to on-device transcription immediately.

The website

When you download the app, we write one row: the moment, where the link came from, the country, whether the machine was a Mac, and whether it looked like a robot. To tell one download from two by the same person, that row carries a hash of your IP address and browser string mixed with the day it happened. The address itself is never stored, and because the day goes into the hash, the same computer tomorrow is a different value that cannot be linked to today's. So we can say how many people downloaded Kazhy yesterday, and we cannot say whether any of them came back.

While you are on the site, your browser remembers which page sent you here, so that a download can be counted against it. That note is kept by the browser, travels with the download link when you use it, is gone when you close the tab, and nothing else sends it anywhere.

The anonymous pulse

While the app is running it sends one small message a few times a day: a random identifier for this installation, the app version, your interface language, and four numbers: how many dictations you made that day, how many of them ran in the cloud, how many on your Mac, and how many used a style. Each message replaces the day's earlier one rather than adding to it, so the day ends with one row. We add the country Cloudflare reports for the request and whether it looked like a robot. It carries nothing you said, no length, no spoken language, and no vocabulary.

The identifier is a random value generated on your Mac. It is not derived from your hardware, your account, or anything about you. It is kept in the app's own settings on your Mac, and it is gone when those settings are reset. It exists so we can tell whether people come back after a week, which is a question about the product and not about you. You can turn these messages off in Settings.

How long we keep it

The rows recording downloads of the app are deleted a year after they are made.

The daily usage rows are deleted a year after they are made.

Seeing it, or having it deleted

Write to hello@kazhy.app and ask. There is no button for this and we are not going to pretend otherwise: one person reads that address and goes and looks. You will get an answer, and if you ask us to delete your records we will.
